After the pope dies, his ring (called the Ring of the Fisherman) is removed and destroyed
Tale
When Cardinal Lawrence is tasked with leading one of the world’s most secretive and ancient events, the election of a new pope, he finds himself at the center of a conspiracy that could shake the very foundations of the Catholic Church. The actions of Cardinal Lawrence and the other cardinals during the conclave process in the film are true and accurate to Catholic faith and centuries-old traditions. The Vatican officially declares the throne of the Holy See (the governing body of the Catholic Church) vacant. The papal apartment is closed with a crimson ribbon and sealed with a wax papal seal. The college of cardinals is segregated in apartments (Domus Sanctae Marthae, the House of Saint Martha) where they eat and sleep between votes. Finally, the windows and doors to the Sistine Chapel, where the actual elections and ballots are held, are blacked out, closed, and locked to preserve the secrecy of the conclave.
And so there is no need
It is reported that Ayendi will be the first African pope. The Roman Catholic Church has had three African popes: Victor I (189-199 AD), Miltiades (also known as Melchiades, 311-314 AD), and Gelasius I (492-496 AD). Lawrence: Our faith is a living thing precisely because it goes hand in hand with doubt. If there were only certainty and no doubt, there would be no mystery. Let us pray that God will give us a pope who doubts. And may He grant us a Pope who sins and begs for forgiveness and who continues…
And nowa movie for adults

Allegri: Miserere Performed by Capella Musicale Pontificia Sistina, Massimo Palombella Courtesy of Deutsche Grammophon GMBH Under license from Universal Music Operations Ltd. Based on Robert Harris’ 2016 novel, CONCLAVE takes viewers to the Vatican during the College of Cardinals’ process of selecting a new pope… full of political battles, twists, turns and surprises. And… if the average age of the people in the cinema I attended is any indication…
they’re flocking to this film
Directed by Edward Berger (ALL SILENT ON THE WESTERN FRONT), CONCLAVE moves nimbly, unraveling a mystery – not a "whodunnit" but rather "who gets it" – and it’s surprisingly tense. Part of that is thanks to the great, great actors who have been cast in this film. Ralph Fiennes (Voldemort in the HARRY POTTER films) anchors the proceedings as the «Dean» of Cardinals, tasked with leading a disparate group of cardinals to a consensus selection of the next pope. He acts as much detective as mediator as he does as he wrestles with his own sense of faith…and ambition…while uncovering the schemes and plots of some of the «humble servants» vying for the top spot. Able to assist are John Lithgow, Isabella Rosellini, and a few others (mostly unknowns) who are vying for "pole position" in the battle for the new pope. Special mention should go to the GREAT Stanley Tucci for his support as one of the contenders whose platform seems to be «I don’t want this»; but who really, really wants that under that.
in the cinema
Don’t be surprised if both Fiennes and Tucci (as well as director Berger) are mentioned at Oscar nomination time (there are such good twists and turns and it’s a). fun ride with these twists but to be honest I felt like this movie was «one». twist too far" and should/could have ended 10 minutes before the end (without the final twist). Some would now say that this final twist is the point of the movie but…I would be fine without it.
